You rented in Italy and money left your card. What is the free remedy after renting in Italy?
Two separate routes, and both are worth launching because they do different jobs. Conciliation before the chamber of commerce of the province where the branch is located is the one that can get your money back: it is quick and cheap, often free for small disputes. A report to the AGCM for unfair commercial practices will not refund you, but the authority sanctions repeated practices, and a reported trader becomes markedly more flexible.

Step by step
- First send your written complaint to the rental company with a fourteen-day deadline: conciliation requires that prior attempt.
- Identify the chamber of commerce for the branch's province (Camera di Commercio) and file a conciliation request online. The form asks for the facts, the amount and the supporting documents.
- In parallel, file a report with the AGCM on agcm.it, consumer reports section. It is free and takes ten minutes.
- Mention both steps in your correspondence with the company: together they weigh more than separately.
What comes next, in the same country
- Conciliation failed: the giudice di pace handles small claims, with a simplified procedure and low fees.
- You do not live in Italy: the European Consumer Centre in your country will refer the case to its Italian counterpart, free of charge.
